Scotland could be independent on 24 March, 2016, if voters backed leaving the UK in the 2014 independence referendum, the Deputy First Minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon announced in November 2013.

The date was included in the Scottish government's White Paper on the subject issued by the Scottish Government on the 26 November 2013 and described as a 'blueprint' for independence.
