Renzi to face confidence vote over reform

Amid chaotic scenes in parliament, Italy's centre-left government on the 28 April 2015 announced a confidence vote over proposals for a radical overhaul of the electoral system aimed at producing stable governments.

On the 29 April 2015 Mr Renzi won the first of the three confidence votes. Two more confidence votes on separate articles of the law were passed on the 30 April 2015, before a final vote on the entire package was expected the following week.

Italy's parliament on the 4 May 2015 approved the radical new electoral law.
