President Mikheil Saakashvili accused the Russian government 11 August 2008 of invading undisputed Georgian territory and of seeking to depose his government as foreign ministers from the Group of Seven urged Russia to agree an immediate ceasefire with Tbilisi.

Russian troops entered Georgia from the breakaway region of Abkhazia, as the conflict between the two neighbours appears to be broadening.

President George W. Bush accused Russia, 11 August 2008, of invading Georgia and said Moscow appeared to be mounting an effort to overthrow the “duly elected government” in Tbilisi.
