Samaras calls confidence vote ahead of bailout exit talks

The Greek government won a confidence vote that took place in the early hours of 11 October 2014. The Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras had highlighted the imminent return of growth and the possible early exit from the bailout as reasons for ensuring the coalition government remaining in power.

A further challenge on the horizon was a presidential election due in February 2015.

The leftist Syriza party warned the government that its days were numbered.
