Sarkozy out as Fillon and Juppé advance to second round of French conservative primary

In the first round of the primary held in France on the 20 November 2016 to choose the candidate to contest for the Centre-Right in the 2017 Presidential Election in France, the winner was former French Prime Minister François Fillon.

He would compete with another former French Prime Minister Alain Juppé in a second round of the primary on the 27 November 2016. Former President Nicolas Sarkozy was knocked out of the contest.

On the 24 November 2016 a final television debate took place between the two remaining candidates. A poll taken after the programme suggested that Francois Fillon beat Alain Juppé in the TV head-to-head.
