Slovenia signed a deal with Russia November 2009 for the massive South Stream gas pipeline from Russia to Europe to run through its territory.

South Stream - which is scheduled to be completed by 2015 - is in competition with a European Union-backed pipeline - Nabucco.

Article in EurActiv in February 2010 suggests that Romania might also join the South Stream project (possibly instead of Bulgaria).
