Spain election unlikely to calm investors

The decision by Spanish Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero on the 29 July 2011 to call an early general election on 20 November 2011 was an acknowledgement of defeat. The government’s credibility at home and abroad had been fatally undermined by three years of economic crisis and by worsening conditions in the eurozone sovereign bond markets.
