Ratings agency Moody's cut the credit ratings of 16 Spanish banks on the 18 May 2012, a further blow to a country that was struggling to deal with the bad debts of its banking sector. Shares of Bankia, the Spanish bank that was partly nationalized in the previous, went into a steep decline on the 17 May 2012 on reports of a run on the bank’s deposits that was subsequently quashed both by the lender and the government. |
