Speech: Concept of Energy Union framework – introductory speech at ITRE meeting

Text of a speech by European Commission Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič at the Extraordinary ITRE Committee Meeting on 26 January 2015.

The creation of a European Energy Union was discussed by the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy of the European Parliamwnt together with European Commission Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič. The aim of the Energy Union would be to pool the EU's resources, reinforce its negotiating power with third countries and reduce its dependency on imports, while combating climate change. The debate took place on the 26 January 2015 ahead of the European Commission's presentation of its Communication on this issue in February 2015.
