On the occasion of his State of the Union speech on 14 September 2016, European Commission president Jean-Claude Juncker set out the next steps to accelerate the completion of the Capital Markets Union (CMU).

It aims at boosting jobs and growth in the European Union while being a key building of the Investment Plan for Europe, as it enables capital to move more freely across borders in the Single Market.

The Commission urged the Council of the European Union and the European Union to swiftly endorse the first wave of proposals in the context of the CMU, like the framework for securitisation and the prospectus directive.
