Statement by the High Representative/Vice-President Federica Mogherini and Commissioner Christos Stylianides in support of the latest UN appeal for a ceasefire in Syria

On the 9 August 2016, a statement was made by Federica Mogherini, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, and Commissioner Christos Stylianides in full support of the latest United Nations’ appeals for a 48-hour humanitarian break in the fighting to provide humanitarian assistance to Syrian people and to repair the electricity and water network.

On the 18 August 2016, the European Union strongly condemned the continued attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure in Aleppo and expressed its intention to fully support the Geneva Communiqué and relevant UNSC Resolutions to put an end to more than five years of conflict in Syria.
