Statement by the Spokesperson on Israel’s decision to advance plans for housing units in Gilo settlement in East Jerusalem

The European Union condemned on 26 July 2016 the Israeli decision to build hundreds of housing units in the settlement of Gilo, built on occupied Palestinian land in East Jerusalem, as it further undermines the viability of a two-state solution.

Israel's announcement came weeks after the report of the Middle East Quartet called on Israel to abandon its settlement policy, which is illegal under international law.
