Statement from the EU27 regarding the outcome of the UK’s referendum on EU membership

The leaders of the remaining 27 member states of the European Union stated on 29 June 2016 at the European Council summit their regret concerning the outcome of the referendum in the United Kingdom on its EU membership.

Leaders highlighted that EU law still applied in the UK until it formally left the European Union. They also scheduled an informal summit of the European Council to take place in September, in order to discuss the way forward for the EU.
