On 02 June 2016, the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Union Federica Mogherini and European Commissioner Johannes Hahn made a statement on the vote on constitutional amendments related to the judiciary by the Parliament of Ukraine.

The Parliament approved plans to fight corruption in the legal system, as part of reforms promised to its backers such as the EU and the IMF. Judges would face limits to their immunity from prosecution and be appointed independently of MPs.
