Politico published a feature in July 2015 on the allegations of organised crime connected to high figures of Kosovo's political elite.

The United States and the European Union were pressing Kosovar authorities to make the necessary law amendments which would allow a special court to be created aimed at investigating allegations of several crimes organised and encouraged by people connected to Kosovo's war in 1999 which are now in high-profile political positions.

The article suggests that Kosovo's attempts to delay the creation of such court could significantly damage the relations between the West and the country, which relies on foreign investment and has still a fragile position on the international stage. That would ultimately damage Kosovo's hopes to eventually join the European Union.
