The Netherlands: EU Presidency, January – June 2016

The Netherlands holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union from 1 January to 30 June 2016. It wanted a Union that focused on the essentials, created growth and jobs through innovation, and connected with civil society.

The Netherlands would focus on four priority areas:

+ Migration & international security
+ Europe as an innovator & job creator
+ Sound finances and a robust eurozone
+ Forward-looking climate & energy policy
