Article reports that Turkey’s main opposition party, the Republican People’s Party (CHP), elected an anti-corruption campaigner Kemal Kilicdaroglu as its new leader on the 22 May 2010. Under their new leader the CHP will challenge the ruling Islamist-leaning AK party at the next general election due before July 2011.

Subsequently, EurActiv reported Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu as attempting to lower the country's election threshold in parliament, which is the highest in Europe, ahead of the 2011 general election.
