Tymoshenko on hunger strike over EU treaty / Protestors in Kyiv urge Yanukovich to sign EU pact

In a statement made public by her lawyer on the 25 November 2013, Yulia Tymoshenko announced she was starting a hunger strike until Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych signed the Association Agreement with the European Union.

She had said in an open letter the week before that she was ready to ask the EU to drop its demand to release her from prison if Yanukovych signed the deal.

Protests in Kyiv / Kiev continued on most days in the last days of November 2013 putting pressure on Mr Yanukovich to sign the landmark EU-Ukraine association agreement at the Eastern Partnership Vilnius summit on the 28-29 November 2013.
