UK raises ‘subsidy war’ fear over Opel

Lord Mandelson called on the European Commission on 17 September 2009 to ensure that Germany's offer of multi-billion euro subsidies to smooth the sale of General Motors' European arm does not begin a 'subsidy war', with governments using state aid to protect jobs.
