Ukraine's prime minister Arseny Yatseniuk resigned on the 24 July 2014 after failing to pass laws to increase army financing and regulate the country's energy situation.

Earlier in the day, the nationalist party Svoboda and the Udar (Punch) party of former boxing champion Vitaly Klitschko had left the government coalition provoking its collapse and forcing new elections.

President Petro Poroshenko said that the breakup of the coalition in parliament was not a legal basis for the resignation of the cabinet, calling for a vote of confidence on the 25 July.
