Vestager says EU will eye ‘big data’ concerns in merger probes

Competition commissioner Margrethe Vestager stated on 17 January 2016 that EU authorities intended to keep a close eye on the way large internet companies collect vast quantities of data.

Ms Vestager's comments highlighted the increased focus that regulators give to the use of so-called big data, i.e., large sets of personal information which are collected by company, often after users voluntarily hand them over.
