Further information:

The blockade was introduced on 6 November 2017, with sources reporting on major disruptions in the delivery of emergency assistance and basic food products.

Following increasing international pressure, Saudi Arabia agreed to progressively lift the blockade to allow humanitarian aid to the population.

Background information:

Yemen has been affected by a Civil War between Houthi rebels controlling the capital Sana'a - who are allied with former president Ali Abdullah Saleh - and forces loyal to another president, the ousted Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi. Since 2015, Saudi Arabia has led a military intervention to counter the advance of the Iran-allied Houthis, with the ultimate aim of reinstating Hadi.

Saudi's decision to impose a blockade followed the launch by Houthi rebels of a ballistic missile towards Riyadh's international airport earlier in the month.

Reports on the deterioration of the humanitarian crisis in Yemen as the country suffered from a blockade imposed by a Saudi-led coalition over its sea, land and air entry points.
