Article reports that young demonstrators set up camp in the Puerta del Sol at the heart of the Spanish capital Madrid in May 2011 in the biggest of a series of surprise protests by thousands of young Spaniards across the country. In what has become known as the 'May 15 movement', students and unemployed people in their 20s – co-ordinating themselves through websites such as Twitter and Facebook – have since Sunday staged protests in dozens of Spanish cities. Echoing recent demonstrations in Portugal and the Middle East, they are airing grievances ranging from 40% youth unemployment to the domination of politics by the two main parties. |
