Early results of the latest Eurobarometer opinion survey (Eurobarometer 55) were published on 17 July 2001. These highlights provide country-by-country responses to seven key questions concerning support for EU membership and the euro, perceptions of national benefits from EU membership, confidence in the European Commission, and support for a common foreign policy, common security and defence policy and EU enlargement. EU trends show a growth in support for the euro (up to 66% in the euro-12). There is a slight increase in indifference towards EU membership and its benefits. Support for enlargement, a common foreign policy, a common security and defence policy are stable. |
