A proposal for a directive on the fight against aircraft noise was adopted by the European Commission on 28 November 2001. The directive is a new approach to the control of aircraft noise, which fully integrates the new international framework, based on the definition of a new international standard and the resolutions of the last International Civil Aviation Organisation's General Assembly (ICAO). With this directive, new operating restrictions on noisy aircraft, including banning them altogether, may be introduced at the worst affected airports. The directive will also repeal the so-called “hushkits” Regulation, resolving a number of long standing disputes with the United States. |
