EU in last lap of talks on global aviations emissions deal

Negotiations on a deal to curb greenhouse gas emissions from the global aviation industry intensified during the summer of 2013 as EU and US officials tried to avoid a trade war.

The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO - the United Nations' civil aviation body), had until September 2013 to agree a market-based plan to curb rising greenhouse gas emissions from global airlines.
