Press Release: Tighter rules on personal imports of meat and milk into the EU

The Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health (SCFCAH) voted on 23 September 2002 in favour of a Commission proposal to tighten up the rules on personal imports of meat and milk products. Travellers arriving in the EU from certain third countries will no longer be allowed to bring in personal imports of meat, meat products, milk or milk products, on their person or in their luggage, unless accompanied by official veterinary documentation. The proposal will now be formally adopted by the Commission and will enter into force on 1st January 2003.
