Britain ready to seek Zimbabwe’s suspension from Commonwealth / UK threatens to act over security and media crackdown in Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe's Justice Minister and Information Minister met in Brussels on 11 January 2002 for a confrontation with the European Union over progress on the Cotonou Agreement and to try to dissuade the EU from imposing sanctions. In a separate development, Britain threatened on 8 January 2002 to demand Zimbabwe's suspension from the Commonwealth as Zimbabwe's government prepared to push through draconian media and security legislation.
