Date: 30/01/03 THE European Commission has taken action against six member states - Greece, Ireland, Austria, Belgium, Finland and Germany - for failing to tackle air pollution. The Commission is referring Greece and Ireland to the European Court of Justice. It says Greece failed to apply a law on combating pollution at a power station in Crete, while Ireland failed to provide data on carbon dioxide emissions from cars. Both Ireland and Germany will receive final written warnings for failing to fulfil requirements on the use of ozone-depleting substances. And Greece, Belgium and Finland will be warned over failure to apply a law on internal combustion engines for non-road mobile machinery.
