The Council agreed on 20 May 2003 to two draft Regulations providing for €351 million aid for measures to combat three key poverty diseases: HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis. € 73.95 million will also be made available for policies and actions on reproductive and sexual health and rights in developing countries. The agreement is a central part of the EU's wider 'Programme of action: accelerated action on HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis in the context of poverty reduction', which was adopted in May 2001. |
