Blair stepped in to block plans for new nuclear power stations

The UK Government launched a White Paper on Energy, 'Our energy future - creating a low carbon economy', on 24 February 2003. Included in the White Paper are targets to cut carbon dioxide emissions by 60% by 2050; to double the share of electricity from renewables from 10% by 2010 to 20% by 2020; to increase energy efficiency sales to the domestic market by 2008 and to eliminate fuel poverty in Britain by 2016-2018.
