Call for EU to fund defence projects

The incoming Greek Presidency of the European Union has warned that Europe risks being left behind in the race to develop cutting edge technologies, many of which develop as a result of military projects, and the Presidency is pushing for an end to the ban that prevents the European Commission spending its annual €4.4 bn research budget on military research. The move towards more defence research is also part of the EU's drive to greater competitiveness.
