With the European Union's Spring European Council only a week away, calls are growing to live up to reform aims set at the European Council in Lisbon in 2000. The UK Chancellor, Gordon Brown, warned in a speech on 10 March 2003 that 'to achieve full employment in Europe, we will need much of the flexibility of America applied to much of Europe'. Elsewhere, the European Financial Services Round Table has called for the slow progress towards a single market in financial services to be speeded up. |
