Press Release: European Commission puts spotlight on coastal erosion

An international conference was held in Brussels on 18 May 2004 at which the results and recommendations of a pan-European project on coastal erosion were discussed. The project was started in 2002 following a request from the European Parliament to examine the issue. Over the last two years the EUrosion project has built up a wealth of information on the causes, extent and management of coastal erosion in Europe. Based on the analyses, the EUrosion consortium comes forward with a series of recommendations covering EU, national, regional and local levels. The results and recommendations of the study will feed into the EU's forthcoming 'Thematic Strategy on Soil'.
