Monti’s veto under the spotlight

The European Court of Justice began considering an appeal by Honeywell International against Competition Commissioner Mario Monti's decision in July 2001 to prohibit the world's biggest industrial takeover - the proposed $42bn (£30bn) merger between US companies General Electric (GE) and Honeywell.
