The European Commission on 26 April 2005 cleared, under the EU Merger Regulation, the public bid by the Australian international resources company BHP Billiton (BHP) for all the shares in the Australian company WMC Resources (WMC), a company active in the nickel, copper-uranium and fertiliser sectors. The Commission concluded that there were minimal overlaps of activities and as such the acquisition would not significantly impede effective competition in the EEA or any substantial part of it. |
