In May 2004, in order to cope with the incorporation of nine new languages in its daily work, the European Commission adopted a series of practical measures, including a demand-management system to ensure that the standard length of documents is respected. 15 months later, the Commission adopted a new Communication which assessed the previous year's text and also drew lessons for the future, especially as regards the introduction of further official languages, setting out to strengthen the role of translation in the decision-making process. |
