Leaders back changes to services directive

French President Jacques Chirac has won support from other European Union leaders at the European Council on 22-23 March 2005, for revisions to the proposed Services Directive. The Directive has become such a bone of contention in French political debate there were fears it could lead to France rejecting the new EU Constitutional Treaty in the referendum on 29 May 2005.
