The Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health (SCFCAH) on 26 September 2005 endorsed two European Commission proposals for implementing rules on hygiene and official controls for the food and feed chain. The hygiene package had been adopted in April 2004 and consists of a set of four Regulations overhauling all previous food and feed hygiene legislation at EU level. The implementing rules now agreed for this package were drawn up by the European Commission following close consultation with Member States and stakeholders. The new hygiene legislation was to enter into force on 1 January 2006.
