An important dimension of the economic reforms after the end of communism was the development of housing finance. While the early transition period was characterised by a lack of any comprehensive housing policy, the year 2000 marked a turning point. In that year, the Hungarian government introduced a generous housing subsidy scheme, one of the main elements of which was interest subsidies. |
