Lockheed Martin, the US arms and aerospace company, has notified the Commission that it will take over the defence and electronics businesses of Loral

The agreement to pay 7.1 billion ecu for the Loral units was announced on 8 January and extends Lockheed Martin's position as the world's largest defence company. Interested parties have been invited to comment and a preliminary decision on the deal will be taken after a month.
