Competition Commissioner Karel Van Miert has given his provisional blessing to a French scheme to stimulate job creation in deprived urban areas

While in favour of the idea of the 'Urban Relaunch Pact', Van Miert warned that he would have to take a careful look at any proposals to pay aid to existing companies. The pact foresees the creation of 'tax free' zones for any businesses located in French inner cities.
