On the 22 May 1996, the European Parliament has given the go-ahead to the cooperation agreement between the Union and Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay – the fourth largest market in the world. The accord would increase contacts between the EU and the four Mercosur countries, 30% of whose trade is already with the Union.
