Date: 18/09/1997 If the Scottish devolution referendum was a victory for the haggis, recent moves by Agriculture Commissioner Franz Fischler have been less kind to gourmets of sheep's innards. But all is not lost. A group of Greeks has launched a website proclaiming their right to enjoy lambs' intestines. The 'Free Kokoretsi' site comes complete with a red ribbon of mourning and a ticking clock reminding Greeks there are only just over 100 days left before kokoretsis are banned by the Commission's newest anti-BSE legislation. Fans of this culinary delight - pieces of liver and kidney wrapped in lambs' intestines and cooked on a spit - are urged to e-mail Fischler and lobby the Greek government for an exemption. Alas, surfers require a sound knowledge of Greek to make much sense of the site, which is to be found at: http://users.forthnet.gr/search.html. |
