Date: 30/10/1997 on flights between Italy and the seven EU states which are full members of the Schengen free movement zone - France, Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and Portugal - were lifted this week. Similar controls will be ended between Austria and the other Schengen countries in December. But both Rome and Vienna will have to wait until next March for a final end to checks at land and sea frontiers. |
