Most MEPs have declared themselves extremely happy with their offices in the Parliament's new Brussels headquarters.

They will, however, find their new Strasbourg offices more cramped when these are finished later this year.

In Brussels, each Euro MP's office has an adjoining room for his or her assistant. In Strasbourg, they will have to share the same room. Some members are not happy with the arrangement, which was agreed long ago, largely on cost grounds. MEPs are in Strasbourg far less often than in Brussels and are not always accompanied by their assistants.

But the ground has been cut from under the feet of French members who might feel that Strasbourg is not being treated on a par with Brussels. The small group of senior MEPs which took the decision included two French members:

Nicole Pery and Jean-Claude Pasty.
