Date: 15/10/1998 It looks increasingly likely that Farm Commissioner Franz Fischler will try to stay on for a second term in Brussels. Fischler has reportedly killed off his chances of returning to Austrian politics for good with an interview in a new biography written by Austrian journalist Hans Rauscher in which the Commissioner criticises his own party. This provoked Austrian Foreign Minister Wolfgang Schüssel, a fellow Austrian People's Party politician, to say that Fischler had become out of touch with Austrian politics since taking up his post in Brussels. |
