The EU is considering sending food aid to Russia following a request from the country’s Prime Minister Yevgeny Primakov

European Commission officials said the request had been made during a meeting between Primakov and the institution's President Jacques Santer. However, the Russians insist that the aid was offered rather than asked for. Deputy Russian Prime Minister Gennady Kulik said this week that his government was considering the offer.
