Date: 03/12/1998 Move over Jacques, Oskar may or may not be coming. During a meeting between a delegation of MEPs and German Finance Minister Oskar Lafontaine in Bonn last week, Green Irene Soltwedel-Schäfer asked 'Red Oskar' to confirm rumours that he wanted to be the next president of the European Commission. “I'm not saying yes and I'm not saying no,” said Lafontaine categorically. Clearly the man who recently joked that he was considering running for the papacy wants to keep his options open. Or not. Possibly. |
