Date: 29/10/1998 ...ruled this week that employers who grant women employees a longer period of maternity leave than the legal minimum may make their extra time off conditional upon them returning to work. It also ruled that employees are entitled to pension rights for their extra period of leave. The judgement followed a case brought by six employees of the UK's Equal Opportunities Commission, who claimed their work contracts breached EU directives on the health and safety of pregnant workers. |
